Significance & Religious Importance
The Day of Arafah is the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and the most sacred day of the Islamic year. Pilgrims gather on the plain of Mount Arafat to perform Wuquf, the central pillar without which Hajj is incomplete. For Muslims around the world who are not performing pilgrimage, fasting on the Day of Arafah is strongly encouraged as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated that it expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.
Recommended Sunnah Deeds & Practices
- Fast on the Day of Arafah (expiates the sins of two years for non-pilgrims)
- Recite the best supplication of Arafah: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah...
- Abundant Takbeerat (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah...) and Tahlil
- Make heartfelt personal Duas and seek sincere forgiveness (Istighfar) from Allah
- Engage in Quran recitation, charity, and acts of righteousness
Masnoon Dua / Supplication
There is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3585)
